Ashy-faced Owls

THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN

This brood of Ashy-faced Owls

was one of the successes of

2004 for the Dominican Republic

Owl Conservation Project

We can now report the first release into the wild under this project of an Ashy-faced Owl.

We understand from SCRO that Zoodom are now providing foreign owl breeders with the opportunity of participating in a captive breeding program for Ashy-faced Owls. Sixteen birds have been allocated for this purpose.

Any experienced breeder members should contact Tony Turk in the first instance.

All applications are to made via SCRO.

The Hispaniola Short-eared Owl

Special efforts to encourage the first captive breeding of the Hispaniola Short-eared Owl are being made  with the moving of 4 birds into a 19m + 8m + 8m aviary.

Currently 30 birds(bred and confiscated)

are awaiting sexing.

The IOS have agreed to meet this cost in full so that funds raised by SCRO can be used exclusively for aviary

construction projects.
